Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

September 2022

As much as possible, carpool or walk your student to/from school. Coordinate with neighbors and create a “Walking School Bus” so students can walk together.

Arrival
Students may begin arriving on school grounds at 9:00 a.m. on Monday and 8:00 a.m. Tuesday-Friday. Crossing guards will be in place from 8:45 a.m.- 9:15 a.m. on Mondays and 7:45 a.m.-8:15 a.m. Tuesday-Friday. Starting at 8:05, K -5th grade students will be welcomed into the building, one grade at a time. 6th grade students will line up on their portable ramps until classroom doors are open. For students who arrive earlier than 8:00, they will line up at their classroom cone until the doors are opened. We ask that parents and guardians say “goodbye” before the playground gate. If parents/guardians need to enter the building, they are welcome to sign-in at the front office first. Any student arriving at or after 9:15 a.m. on Monday or 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday-Friday will need to enter through the front office.

For students wishing to eat breakfast, the cafeteria door behind the gym will open at 8:00

AM Preschool: Bus drops off in the bus loop off of 182nd. If you drive your child, please drop off in the bus loop.

PM Preschool: Drop off is in the front of the building.

K-3rd grade: Drop off occurs in the front of the building. If you have more than one child, follow the drop off procedure for the youngest child. Please keep to the right once in the 184th Street entrance and enter the drop off/pick up lane. Parents need to pull up as far as they can. Students may only get out of cars in the yellow curb area. Students should exit on the sidewalk side of the car only. The left lane must remain a through lane for those vehicles leaving the parking area. Please be mindful of cars parking and pulling out.

4th-6th grade: Drop off is behind the school in the bus loop by the portables. When entering the entrance on 182nd Street, line up vehicles along 90th Ave E if needed. Drop off in designated area only.

Dismissal
School is dismissed at 2:36 p.m. At 2:50, any remaining students will be escorted to the office to call for a ride. The playground gates will remain locked until 2:30 so that c
lasses can safely use the playground without any non-school personnel on campus.

AM Preschool: Bus and parent pick up is in the front of the building.

PM Preschool: Bus picks up in the bus loop.

Kindergarteners need to be picked up from their designated exterior classroom door by a parent, sibling or designated person.

1st-6th grade students who are walking home or being picked up by walking adults will be dismissed to the blacktop area behind the school. Please do not gather in front of the school to pick up student on foot. It slows down our dismissal process on the front curb. The play equipment will be closed until 3:00 so that we can be sure that all students are accounted for.

1st-3rd grade students (and older siblings) get picked up in the front loop. Parents need to pull up as far as they can. Students may only get into cars in the yellow curb area.
Buses, daycare vans, 4th-6th grade dismiss to the bus loop off 182nd: Please allow all buses and daycare vans to enter first. Parents need to pull up as far as they can. Students may only get into cars in the yellow curb area.
Siblings: Older students will meet up and stay in the area of the youngest sibling.

Friendly Reminders: Part of what makes our school great is our neighboring community. For both our driving and walking families, it is important that we maintain a friendly relationship to those living around us and ask for your help. Please follow these “rules of the road” during each visit to our school.

Walkers:
 • Please be courteous to all other walkers and vehicles
 • Stay on the sidewalks
 • Only cross in designated crosswalks
 • Cross when directed by a crossing guard or light
 • Pay attention to your surroundings
 • There is no supervision off school property
 • If there are any concerns, call 911

Drivers:
 • Use the available parking stalls to the greatest extent possible to minimize off-site traffic.
 • Follow all traffic and safely laws, including any street signage regulating traffic/parking posted in our community.
 • As much as possible, carpool or walk your student to/from school. Coordinate with neighbors and create a “Walking School Bus” so students can walk together.
 • Yield to foot traffic at all times, particularly in marked crosswalks and street intersections.
 • Always keep the surrounding roads accessible to emergency response and service vehicles (fire trucks, ambulances, garbage trucks, mail carriers, etc.)
 • Be courteous and compassionate to our surrounding neighbors. Never park your vehicle in front of neighbors’ driveway or mailbox and avoid entering private property.
 • School events have limited parking – walk whenever possible to school events. Please remember, no parking is permitted on the curving driveway.
